When an EntraPass service will not start, the visible symptom may come from the application, database, operating system, licensing, permissions, storage, or another dependency. The safest first response preserves evidence and avoids turning one failure into several.
01
Record the exact failure
Capture the full service name, error text, time of failure, server name, EntraPass edition and version, and whether every operator is affected. Check whether the failure followed a restart, Windows update, security-software change, password change, storage warning, or other maintenance.
Do not rely only on a message such as ‘EntraPass is down.’ The exact service and timestamp help an authorized technician compare the application state with operating-system and database events.
- Exact service or application name
- Full error text and timestamp
- EntraPass edition and version
- Recent server, account, network, or security changes
- Whether the server was restarted
02
Check the server condition
Confirm the server is reachable, has adequate free storage, and is not waiting on an operating-system restart. Determine whether related EntraPass components are running and whether the expected database is accessible.
Avoid repeatedly forcing the same service to start. Repeated attempts can overwrite useful event details without correcting the underlying dependency.
03
Protect the database
Locate the most recent verified EntraPass database backup and confirm that an off-server copy is available. Do not overwrite a known-good backup with an unverified file created during an unstable condition.
If the outage began during an upgrade, migration, or database operation, stop broad changes until the original environment and rollback options are documented.
04
Prepare remote access
Arrange an authorized Windows account, a customer decision-maker, and an IT contact who can review services, permissions, endpoint protection, and networking. A remote Kantech technician can then work from the exact symptom toward the dependency that failed.
