An EntraPass upgrade can improve compatibility and supportability, but the safest upgrade starts with facts about the existing environment—not the installer file. Plan the database, server, licensing, controllers, workstations, and integrations together.
01
Confirm the upgrade path
Record the exact installed edition and version. Determine whether the planned destination supports a direct upgrade or requires intermediate steps, and confirm current requirements using official Kantech resources for that release.
02
Check every dependency
Review the server operating system, database components, connected workstations, controller firmware considerations, video or intrusion integrations, web/mobile components, reporting tools, and any custom interface that depends on the current environment.
03
Back up and define rollback
Create a fresh database backup and confirm it can be retrieved. Record current configuration and license information. Decide in advance what condition triggers rollback and who makes that decision.
- Schedule a maintenance window.
- Confirm a qualified person is onsite if hardware checks are needed.
- Keep installation media and documented prerequisites ready.
- Test live events, commands, reports, and workstation access after the change.
04
Do not upgrade during an unrelated outage
If the system is already unstable, isolate the original problem first. Combining recovery, migration, and upgrade work can make it difficult to tell which change affected the result.
